Indonesia falls behind neighboring countries when it comes to maternal and newborn health. Imbalanced health priorities, lack of strong policies, logistics and transportation issues, and insufficient budgeting contribute to the high rates of mortality, especially among rural and poor populations.

Jalin, a Bahasa Indonesia word for intertwined, is a five-year initiative led by IntraHealth's strategic affiliate DAI Global Health and funded by the US Agency for International Development. The project pulls together stakeholders from the public and private sectors to advocate for and implement broad improvements to the health system in six provinces: North Sumatra, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi.
