Dr. Lucy Mphuru, MBA is a registered medical doctor with more than 20 years of experience working in public health. 

She joined IntraHealth in 2007 and has since held roles as clinical and training manager, project director for the Tanzania HIV Prevention Project, country director for IntraHealth International's Tanzania office, and project director for the Tohara Plus Project.

Prior to joining IntraHealth, she worked for Muhimbili National Hospital as a doctor and served as marketing manager for Population Services International. Later, Mphuru became EngenderHealth’s program manager for prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

Dr. Mphuru has in‐depth clinical knowledge and technical leadership experience in human resources for health and HIV/AIDS prevention and care and treatment programs, including voluntary medical male circumcision, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, adult and pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment, gender-based violence, reproductive health and family planning services. 

As country director, she has provided leadership, strategic vision, and guidance in all phases of program management, ranging from project needs assessment to program design, implementation and evaluation. She represents IntraHealth at senior levels of the Government of Tanzania and to donor agencies in Tanzania. Her comprehensive skill set includes strategy design, program and technical management, financial administration, and ensuring service quality in order to achieve a high degree of impact among target populations.

Dr. Mphuru obtained her doctor of medicine degree from Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences and a master’s in business administration (MBA) from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute in Tanzania.
