IntraHealth International has been awarded the 2019 Impact in Practice Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health.

“The community partner award is intended to recognize orgnizations that have a demonstrated impact on the practice of public health,” said Anna Schenck, associate dean for public health practice at UNC in a letter to IntraHealth. “Thank you for all the support you are giving our students.”

“My colleagues and I are thrilled to receive this recognition from UNC,” said Pape Gaye, IntraHealth president and CEO. “Every year during our UNC-IntraHealth Summer Fellows program, we look for new ways to partner with up-and-coming global health professionals and learn from one another as we work on real, high-impact projects around the world. We look forward to continuing our relationship and journey together for years to come.”

The UNC-IntraHealth Summer Fellows Program is a yearly partnership that has trained and mentored 37 students since 2010. All graduate students who are currently enrolled at the Gillings School—and will remain enrolled the fall following the summer fellowship—are eligible. And applications become available each fall.

This year, fellows conducted research on religion and family planning, obstetric and maternal health, and sexual harassment in the workplace.

“The UNC-IntraHealth fellowship program is the highlight of our year,” says IntraHealth’s chief strategy officer Rebecca Kohler, who oversees the program. “Each cohort brings invaluable energy, new insights, and enthusiasm for global health and IntraHealth’s mission.”
