Strategic investment in the health workforce drives economic development, creates job opportunities, and strengthens social protections, but the world faces a critical shortage of health workers.

At the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), IntraHealth and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) will convene experts from Japan, the US, and sub-Saharan Africa at an official side event to zero-in on health workforce development in Africa and its importance in achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Dr. Francis Gervase Omaswa, executive director of the African Center for Global Health and Social Transformation and laureate of the third Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize in Medical Services, and IntraHealth's CEO Pape Gaye will lead dialogue on strategies for sustainable, productive investment.

Join us for a panel discussion as we:

  • Discuss the changing landscape of global health
  • Advocate for international and domestic investments in health workforce development
  • Highlight the importance of using human resource data for planning for UHC and the need for investments in improving the quality and availability of human resource data
  • Highlight the relevance of health workforce development to UHC, gender equality, and inclusive growth

A simultaneous interpretation in English, French, and Japanese will be available during the event.

Since 1993, the government of Japan has led the TICAD conference along with co-hosts United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, and African Union Commission (AUC) to continuously foster the relationship between Japan and Africa by bringing together African heads of state and government, international organizations, donors, private companies, and civil society organizations.
